Follow Your Calling into a Career
in Counselling

Some people just know they’re meant to help others. With a caring nature, a listening ear, and a true passion for supporting others, they’re often the ones people turn to in times of need.

If that sounds like you, perhaps you've wondered about becoming a counsellor. Maybe you've looked at college or university routes and felt overwhelmed or thought it just doesn’t feel like it is for you. But what if there was another way?

Training for Counsellors offer an accessible and supportive route into the world of counselling, no matter where you're starting from. Whether you're beginning a new career, changing direction, or exploring counselling as part of your personal development, our doors are open to everyone. This could be your second, third, or even fourth career. Wherever you are in your journey, we’re here to help you take the next step.

Owner and course facilitator Samantha Crapnell shares her passion for Training for Counsellors, “When I started Training for Counsellors, I wanted to create more than just training opportunities, I wanted to build a community. A space where people could feel safe, seen, and supported as they grew into their role as a counsellor. Somewhere learning could feel authentic, grounded, and genuinely human, not clinical or intimidating. I know that the first step into counselling can feel overwhelming, and I wanted to offer to other people the kind of environment that we go on to offer clients accessing counselling and therapy. We meet people where they are and walk alongside them as they discover their own voice and confidence in becoming a counsellor.”

Start Where You Are

Many of our learners begin with a simple desire to care and support others, whether that’s in their personal lives, at work, or as the first step toward a career in counselling.

Our Introduction to Counselling: Listening Skills course is the perfect foundation for anyone who wants to build more meaningful and effective relationships, whether with friends and family, or with clients and service users. It’s also ideal for organisations who want to equip their staff with essential skills for connection and communication. We can even tailor sessions to meet the unique needs of your workplace or team.

Counsellors in Training – Learn in a Different Way

We offer something different, our courses and CPD sessions offer a ‘non-traditional’ way of learning.

You’re a counsellor in training, and we start with you. We recognise your lived experiences, your strengths, and the way you view the world, and we build from there. To support this, we offer:

  • Small, Supportive Cohorts. In our intimate groups, your voice matters. You’ll be heard and can learn from others' lived experiences while also sharing your own.

  • Experiential Learning. We prioritise practice and ethics, offering you hands-on opportunities to shape your learning through an anti-oppressive approach.

  • Collaborative, Learner-Led Approach. Our flexible structure adapts to your unique learning style, working together to address barriers to learning wherever we can.

Our Facilitators are Qualified Counsellors

Our facilitators are all qualified counsellors bringing years of experience, a wide range of specialisms, and a passion for supporting others on their journey. We take a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and practice-focused approach to learning, supporting learners with compassion. We also embrace neurodiversity, acknowledging that everyone thinks, learns, and experiences the world in their own unique way, and we create space for that difference to be respected and celebrated. At the heart of it all is real connection; our practice-focused approach ensures that everything we do is geared towards helping you grow in confidence, skill, and self-awareness as a counsellor.

Working with an anti-oppressive approach honours difference and supports growth. Whether attending a CPD event, completing a short course or beginning full counselling training, we meet participants with care, respect, and encouragement, with a sense of belonging and community.

Whether you’re seeking a new direction in your career or looking to answer that calling to become a counsellor, you’re not too late. Reach out to Sam at info@training-for-counsellors.co.uk for more information to begin your career in counselling.
