Service Description
**Every client has a sensory profile — as do we.** Sensory experience is part of being human, yet what someone experiences through their sensory system can easily be understood as something else: resistance, disengagement, anxiety, difficulty communicating or simply “that's just how they are.” But what might we notice if we became more curious about the sensory experiences beneath what we see? This one-day experiential online course invites counsellors and other helping professionals to explore sensory awareness as another dimension of therapeutic understanding. We'll consider how our eight sensory systems work together, the often-overlooked sensory demands of everyday activities, and how sensory experiences interact with our environments, relationships and changing life circumstances. **Together, we'll explore:** - The eight sensory systems and how they interact. - Sensory demands in everyday life and therapeutic encounters. - How function, environment and context shape sensory experiences. - Changing sensory experiences across adulthood. - The intersection of sensory processing differences and neurodivergence. - What our own sensory experiences bring into the therapeutic relationship. - Working within diversity, autonomy, self-awareness and ethical practice. This isn't about becoming a sensory specialist or learning to assess or diagnose. It's about adding another lens to your existing practice — noticing more, questioning assumptions and considering how that understanding might influence the way we listen, observe and respond. We'll explore neurodivergence through a neuro-affirming lens, but this is not specialist training in autism, ADHD, trauma or chronic illness. Expect interactive, experiential learning with opportunities for discussion, reflection and application to your own therapeutic practice. **A short pre-reading pack will be provided. No prior specialist knowledge is required.** **Online | One day | Limited spaces** **About your facilitators** Zara Winstanley is a counsellor, clinical supervisor and trainer who brings sensory awareness into her therapeutic work with adults, children and young people. Her teaching combines theoretical understanding, creativity and practical examples. Samantha Crapnell is a counsellor, clinical supervisor and trainer with a pluralistic, relational approach. Together, they bring sensory understanding and psychotherapeutic enquiry into conversation.
