Learner Experiences
We can tell you all about our courses, how we teach and what matters to us. But sometimes it's more helpful to hear from the people who've experienced it for themselves.
Here are some of the reflections, thoughts and experiences shared by people who've trained with us.
A few words from a newly qualified L4 therapist ….
Studying with Training for Counsellors has been a genuinely special experience, one that I will carry with me forever. The intimacy of the group created a space where I felt both supported and appropriately challenged. I also felt genuinely held by the tutors, in the way they cared about what we were each going through, remained open to challenge themselves, and understood the depth of the journey we were on. This was truly an experiential course, which really suited me. I won’t give any spoilers, but the breadth of what we covered fuelled my creativity and allowed me to express this part of myself. I’ve kept many of the pieces I created along the way, which says a lot about how impactful that process was for me. I feel incredibly lucky to have been taught by practising therapists and supervisors, as it meant everything we learned was grounded in real-world experience. Their teaching felt authentic and current, offering insight into the reality of the work. I often describe myself as coming out of the course as an “ethical onion”, with layers upon layers of ethical practice woven through everything. This feels a direct reflection of the way the course has been designed and delivered, with ethical practice purposefully placed at its core by Sam and Linsey. Alongside this, a strong neurodiversity, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens was intentionally woven through the course, shaped by the tutors lived professional experience. This was thoughtfully integrated throughout and means that I leave the course feeling advanced in my practice and knowledge of these areas. I would wholeheartedly recommend Training for Counsellors to anyone wanting a rich, experiential and ethically grounded journey into counselling. KB, 2024-2026 Cohort
A fantastic experience! Thank you for making this happen.
I loved the opportunity to take part in Speed Supervision. I enjoyed speaking with all the supervisors in training and listening to a wide range of perspectives. I have reflected a lot on this process and have a deeper understanding of the importance of supervision with the right fit supervisor! Ultimately, as a counsellor in training, you are guided and led by your supervisor, their training, their experiences, and their practice. Having insight into four different supervisors and their practices was a real eye-opener. Each supervisor is unique, exploring the same client session but with very different takeaways. I have spent time questioning what I liked and comparing it with my current supervisor. I think this offering is so beneficial for both parties involved, and it felt very collaborative. I see so much value in this exercise, which has helped me fine- tune how I would like to access supervision and alternative approaches available.
"I've truly cherished every minute of this supervision course. Words can't fully express how much I've gained from this experience, both academically and personally.
Previously, I was hesitant to take risks or step into the spotlight, but now, thanks to this course, I feel more confidence and empowered to embrace challenges. My life has transformed significantly for the better since enrolling in this course. I would wholehearedly recomment it to anyone sekking personal and professional growth!" E

“I recently attended the Vision Board Workshop for Private Practice and honestly I can’t tell you how much value I took away from it. Before I attended I felt muddled and unclear in the direction of my private practice, but after the vision board workshop I felt so much hope and clarity for the future.
I now have a clear direction and feel not only hopeful, but excited and more confident. And all this was achieved with the support of the best company and most encouraging course leader, who made the whole day so much fun and tailored to individual needs for the day. I cannot recommend this workshop highly enough it’s brilliant!!” E

When training opens up new conversations 🎙️
Sometimes the opportunities that come from attending training extend beyond the learning itself. In a recent Counselling Tutor podcast, Wayne reflected on attending one of our Neurodivergence and Children & Young People training events while he was still a second-year counselling student. The experience gave him an opportunity to network, make professional connections and explore possibilities for work after qualification. Those conversations proved fruitful, and Wayne went directly into practice when he qualified. Listen to Wayne's reflection → Source: Counselling Tutor podcast, 35:38–36:48.*
