Training for Organisations
Bespoke training and professional development for the helping professions
Sometimes an organisation knows exactly what training it is looking for. Sometimes staff are asking for further knowledge or skills in a particular area. And sometimes the starting point is simply:
“We're encountering this in our work and we're not quite sure what we need.”
We can work with all three.
Training for Counsellors works with organisations across the helping professions to develop and deliver learning that responds to the needs of their practitioners, their setting and the people they support.

We can adapt one of our existing CPD programmes, develop something specifically for your organisation, or help you build the skills and confidence of people within your own team to facilitate and disseminate learning.

Training that starts with your organisation
We don't believe that organisational training should simply mean taking an existing presentation and changing the logo on the first slide.

There will often be knowledge, theory and skills that are relevant across different settings. But how these are explored and what practitioners need to be able to do with that learning afterwards depends upon context.

Before agreeing a programme, we'll talk with you about what has prompted the request. It might be:
-
staff requests for further learning or development;
-
an identified knowledge or practice gap;
-
a challenge emerging within the service;
-
an area of practice that is changing or becoming more visible; or
-
something your organisation wants to do differently or better.
We'll also want to understand your setting, your practitioners and the clients or communities you serve.

From there, we can recommend an existing programme, adapt something we already deliver, or design learning specifically around what you need
Learning designed to transfer into practice
Our particular specialism is experiential and immersive learning.
We want people to leave training with more than information. Our aim is to develop knowledge, understanding and skills that participants can take directly back into their work.

That means group size, format and delivery are considered as part of the learning design rather than decided independently of it. Some subjects lend themselves to larger groups; others need the space for discussion, exploration, practice and reflection that comes with working more intimately.

An ethical lens runs throughout our work. We pay attention to the organisational system, the practitioners working within it and, ultimately, the people their services exist to support.
Areas we work in
Our organisational work draws upon the specialist areas already represented within Training for Counsellors and our wider CPD programmes.
There is currently significant interest from organisations wanting to develop their understanding of neurodivergence and neurodivergent presentations, particularly within services working with children and young people.

Our wider areas of practice include:
Neurodivergent-affirming practice
Sensory awareness and sensory-informed practice
Working therapeutically with neurodivergent children and young people
Trauma-informed practice
Clinical supervision
Sustainable professional practice and practitioner wellbeing
Integrating a coaching lens into therapeutic practice

You don't have to find the right course title before contacting us. If you're noticing something within your organisation and wondering whether learning and development could help, we'd rather start with that conversation.
Developing learning within your organisation
Sometimes the most sustainable approach isn't for us to keep returning to deliver the same training.
We can work with organisations that want to develop the confidence and capability of their own staff to share knowledge and facilitate learning internally.

Our Train the Trainer work supports people who hold particular knowledge, skills or experience to think about how they translate that into effective learning for others.
This can include learning design, facilitation skills, engagement, experiential learning, different ways of learning and how to move beyond simply delivering information.
For organisations with learning that needs to reach larger teams, different services or future members of staff, developing internal trainers can provide a helpful and cost-effective way of building and sustaining knowledge within the organisation.
As with our other organisational work, Train the Trainer can be developed around what you are trying to achieve rather than delivered as a one-size-fits-all programme.

Early Break UK
Where can training take place
That depends upon what will work best for your organisation and the learning.

We can deliver at your organisation, online, or here at Training for Counsellors in Blackburn.
Our Discovery Room in Blackburn provides a purposefully designed space for experiential learning and can offer a particularly cost-effective option for smaller teams. [Take a look at our Practice Rooms →]
For experiential training, we'll discuss participant numbers with you rather than applying an arbitrary maximum. The right group size depends upon the subject, the learning outcomes and the way participants need to work together.
Start with a conversation

You don't need to arrive with a finished training brief.

You might know exactly what you want.
You might have seen one of our existing CPD programmes and be wondering whether we could adapt it for your team.
You might want to develop people within your organisation who can facilitate learning for others.
Or you might simply be noticing something in practice and wondering whether training could help.
Tell us what you're noticing, what your practitioners are asking for, or what you'd like to be different as a result of the learning. We can start there.
